CS373 Spring 2022: Audie Bethea
What did you do this past week?
This past week, my team and I finished up Phase 3 of the semester project. Fortunately, we were a lot more prepared for the end of the phase than we were for Phase 2, so we were able to deliver our work in a more precise manner. I mostly worked on the backend, setting up a test database and refining the data inside of it.
What’s in your way?
This week, nothing is in my way. I don’t even think I have a single project due for any class. I only have a few more weeks of college left, so I’ll probably take my foot off of the gas for a bit, coast, and have fun with friends.
What will you do next week?
Next week, I have to give a research presentation for my Cloud Computing class, but I don’t think it should be too difficult. In this class, I’ll continue attending lecture and keeping my quiz and exercise grades up.
What did you think of Paper 12: Why extends is evil?
I thought this paper was pretty successful if defining its thesis and providing evidence to back it up. However, I did feel that it never provided a definite solution to avoiding extends — rather, it just pointed out a lot of issues with it.
What was your experience of natural join and SQL?
I think this has been by far the most applicable series of lectures we’ve had so far in this class. I wish we’d done these lectures while we were actually having to use SQL for our projects, because by this point, almost all of our queries are done.
What made you happy this week?
This week, I got to play disc golf for the first time in a while. My dad and I play a lot when I’m back in Dallas, but with all the work from this class, I’ve been having some trouble managing to get outside. There was a super cool brewery course that I went to with a few friends, though it turns out alcohol intake and shooting a good score seem to have an inverse relationship.
What’s your pick-of-the-week?
My pick of the week is pgAdmin! It’s a super barebones tool for exploring postgres databases, and I was able to generate my group’s UML diagram with just the click of a button!
