What did you do this past week?

This past week, I spent a lot of time working on projects for this class, as well as others. However, I’m also trying to find time to relax and enjoy my last few weeks here at UT Austin, because I have the rest of my life to work.

What’s in your way?

Right now, my lack of motivation is the main thing in my way. I need to buckle down and push through a few more days of hard work so I can reap the benefits of a clear schedule later on in the semester. Hopefully, I’ll feel rested up enough to finish out finals strong.

What will you do next week?

I hope to get a more active start on Phase 3 of our semester project. I was out of town all during spring break, so I wasn’t able to use that time to keep up with my group for phase 2, and I’ve been having to play some catch up over the last week. However, having a stronger start to phase 3 should ease my workload towards the deadline.

What did you think of Paper #9: The Dependency Inversion Principle?

Paper #9 was tricky for me to understand on its own, but in the context of the last few papers, especially the paper regarding the Open Closed Principle, I felt that I understood the material on a conceptual level. When I took Object Oriented Programming, it was easier for the to incorporate the principles into my projects, but since this Software Engineering project is so wide in scope, it is difficult for me to follow all of these principles correctly.

What was your experience of decorators, Cache, and functions?

I hadn’t heard of many of these ideas before, at least not explicitly in python. However, decorators remind me somewhat of Higher Order Components in React, which makes sense because decorators are higher ordered functions.

What made you happy this week?

This week, my ultimate frisbee team made the playoffs! We had to win our last game to advance, and we beat the team that was already 2–0 in our division. It feels good knowing we’ve made some progress as a team, since this was our first time playing together.

What’s your pick-of-the-week?

My pick of the week is having a consistent sleep schedule. For a variety of reasons, I’ve been getting a lot less sleep than usual lately, and it has impacted the way I feel in everyday life.
